Arrived in Brainerd in 1874.

See Nicholas Heller for a story about the founding of the Old Settlers Union.

1880 census for Brainerd, dwelling #183:
Bellmuth, Adam, 39, head, baker, self and parents born in Bavaria
Bellmuth, Johanna, 34, wife, self and parents born in Sweden
Bellmuth, Annie, 6, daughter
Bellmuth, Agnes, 4, daughter
Bellmuth, Harriet, 2, daughter
Annie Redeen, 65, sister-in-law, house servant, self and parents born in Sweden
Emma Reeden, 22, sister-in-law, servant
Louis Chemond, 32, boarder

The major errors in the above census are that Harriet is Harry, Adam's son, and Annie Redeen is Christina Ryden, Adam's mother-in-law.

Andy Bennett, the janitor at the hose house, has been ill with fever for some days. Adam Belmuth is attending to his duties. (Brainerd Dispatch, 06 February 1891, p. 4, c. 4)

1895 census for Brainerd, family #111:
Belmuth, Adam, 50, b. Germany, Baker, res. MN 20y, E.D 19y
Belmuth, Johanna, 47, b. Germany (sic)
Belmuth, Harry, 16, b. Minn.
Belmuth, Ella, 11, b. Minn.
(Anna Crowl is in ND, Agnes Maghan is in Duluth, Esther, 3, is missing)

John T. Frater, A. Martin, Dr. J. L. Camp, James Dewar, J. T. Sanborn and Adam Belmouth [sic] comprise a party of hunters who have been slaying the ducks in the vicinity of Backus this week. (Brainerd Dispatch, 08 October 1897, p. 8, c. 1)

A party of gentlemen consisting of H. P. Dunn, Dr. Thabes, N. Linnemann and Dr. J. L. Fredericks are spending the week on Leech lake camping out. Adam Belmouth [sic] is looking after the wants of the inner man for the party. (Brainerd Dispatch, 08 July 1898, p. 8, c. 3)

      J. L. Smith and Dr. Steele, of Minneapolis, returned Tuesday from a duck hunt at the Backus camp, and report very good shooting and an excellent time. Adam Belmouth [sic], of this city, was chief cook at the hunting camp, and the Minneapolis gentlemen were very profuse in their praise of the culinary ability of Mr. Belmuth [sic], declaring that the dinners he served excelled anything in that line that it had been their good fortune to partake of. (Brainerd Dispatch, 22 October 1897, p. 5, c. 3)

               DEATH OF A PIONEER

      Adam Bellmuth, One of Brainerd's
     Oldest Residents Dies This Morning

Adam Bellmuth, one of the oldest residents of Brainerd, died this morning at his home on Fourth Street South, aged 68 years. He has lived in this city for 40 years, coming here when Brainerd consisted of tents and a few log shacks.
He was born in Bremen(sic), Germany, and is survived by his wife and one son and four daughters, viz: Harry and Esther Bellmuth, and Mrs. Agnes Maghan and Mrs. P. J. Woelfert(sic - Wolvert) of this city and Mrs. Chas. T. Crowell (sic - Crowl), of Scranton, N. D.
The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 from the undertaking parlors, Rev. Lowrie, officiating. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, August 6, 1913)

His port of departure (and perhaps last residence?) was Bremen, but Adam was born 15 Sep 1845 in Maxdorf according to the Lambsheim (Germany) Ortssippenbucher (village lineage book).
