Samuel (Cosimo) Prince (Principata) was one of six children born to Emanuele Joseph Principata and his wife Marie Corona. Sam's birth record shows his given name as "Cosimo". According to family stories told to me by my father, Uncle Sam changed his last name to Prince in order to distance himself from unpopular individuals in Chicago, Illinois. Not sure if this is just family lore, but a lot of his Oregon and Washington records have his years of birth different as well as his place of birth from those actual dates.

Samuel moved west to Pasadena, California and altered his name in the 1930's, eventually settling in Oregon. Four of Sam's siblings followed his lead, and headed to the West Coast in the late 1940's eventually settling in California. Sam's brother Louis was the only sibling to remain in Illinois.

Sam was united in marriage three times during his life-time: first, on September 13, 1946 in Goldendale, Washington to Ella Erline Ohlegschlager. Sam and Ella were blessed diwth the birth of a son during their marriage. And second, on August 8, 1957 in Bingen, Klickitat, Washington, USA to Jacqueline Nadine Markham (Carter), the former wife of Earl J. Lyons. And third, to Louise May Cray in 1964 in Washington.

Uncle Sam and Aunt Louise remained in Oregon until their deaths.
