SERVICES FOR MRS. OLIVE WILLEY HERE SUNDAY
Funeral rites for Mrs. Olive Willey, who died suddenly at her home on east Second avenue, early Friday morning, March 30, were held at the First Christian church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the minister, Sherman Kirkpatrick, officiating.
Accompanied by Mrs. Frank Jackson, pianist, Mrs. Lutie Livingston and Mrs. Elsie Loyd sang "We are Going Down the Valley"; "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond the Sunset." Casket bearers were nephews of the deceased; gene, Howard and Uhuel Cullison, Orville and Kenneth Ashburn and Orrin Dickson. Interment was in the Garnett cemetery.
Olive Eva Showalter, youngest daughter of Aaron and Rebecca Showalter, was born April 1, 1891, south of Welda, Kan., and departed this life March 30, 1951, at Garnett, Kans., at the age of 59 years, 11 months and 29 days.
Her parents both died when she was a small child. Whenshe was 16 years of age she united in marriage to Jake Ashburn, August 19, 1907, at Garnett, Kan. To this union 13 children were born, three dying in infancy.
Mr. Ashburn preceded her in death, September 13, 1939, after an illness of over a year.
On May 24, 1948, she united in marriage to Clarence Willey.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Clarence Willey of Garnett; five daughters; Marie Rogers, Lamar, Mo.; Opal Mahon, Merriam, Kan.; Margaret Martin, Esther Willey and Beverly Potter, Garnett; by five sons; Arthur of Welda; Delbert and Carl of Burlington; Cecil of Kansas City, Mo.; and Chester of the U. S. Army, stationed at Fort Sill, Okla.
Also surviving are her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, 26 grandchildren; four brothers; Harry Showalter, Chicago, Ill.; Sam Bibens, Welda; Dan Showalter, Ottawa, and Charles Showalter, Lenexa; one half-sister, Mrs. Cora Right, Altoona, Kan.; a host of friends and neighbors.(D.A.E./Garnett Review, Garnett, Kansas, Thursday, April 5, 1951)
