James was the son of Elcanah A. and Marena (Montgomery) Branstetter. James married Iona Maude Sewell 09/16/1911 in Phelps County, Missouri. She passed away 01/18/1919. To this union three infant sons were born but did not survive. James married Nellie May (Hughes) House on 06/11/1920 in Rolla, Phelps County, Missouri. To this union one son and one daughter were born: Lawrence Gilbert and Zaddie Marie Branstetter. Nellie died 10/14/1922. James married Georgia Eve Malone on 09/13/1928 in Vienna, Maries County, Missouri. To this union one daughter was born: Doris Ilene Branstetter.

Jim was a farmer, hunter and fisherman. He loved to tell coon hunting stories. He lived all his life on the same farm he grow-up on which was homestead by his grandparents, Michael and Permelia (Yoakley) Branstetter. At the age of eighty, he would boost about sleeping in the same room he was born in. He was a good man, a gentle grandfather, and loved by his family.
