Marie Peterson

Mary Marie Peterson, 87, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away Thursday morning (August 30, 2001) at the Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

The daughter of John A. and Mary A. (Dugan) Bowen, she was born February 25, 1914 in rural Novelty, Missouri. On November 26, 1936 in Kirksville, Missouri she was united in marriage to William A. Young who preceded her in death on March 28, 1968. On September 28, 1972 in Kirksville, Missouri she was united in marriage to Glen Peterson who preceded her in death on July 31, 1998.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Loren and Russell Bowen and three sisters, Hazel Jones, Irene Cunningham and Annie Williams.

Marie is survived by one step-daughter, Sandra Pulliam of Greentop, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Bowen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Iva Daniels of Kirksville, Missouri; two step-grandchildren, Todd Lawson and Benjamin Pulliam and several nieces and nephews.

Marie was reared on a farm near Novelty, Missouri and attended the Hazel Dell School. She came to Kirksville, Missouri as a young lady and was employed at J.C. Penneys for many years. She owned and operated a restaurant in Queen City, Missouri, called Young's Cafe.

She was a member of the Christian Church, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and had helped with the Red Cross blood drives in Schuyler and Adair Counties. She had been active in community fundraising.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (September 2, 2001) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel with Reverend Dewayne Wellborn officiating. Organ music will be provided by Cheyrl Newland. Burial will be in the New Harmony Cemetery west of Greentop, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be Ben Pulliam, Leon Jefferies, Scott Meredith, Randy Jefferies, Jeff Sandefur and Glen Sandefur.
