J. A. BOWEN, 84, DIED TUESDAY

Was a Native and Lifelong Resident of Knox County.

John A. Bowen, 84 years old, a native and lifelong resident of the southwest part of Knox County, died at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning at his home southwest of Locust Hill. He hd been sick since last fall from an infection in one hand, but seriously ill only two weeks of pneumonia, which caused his death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Hazel Dell Church, southwest of Locust Hill. Burial will be in the Bowen cemetery near by beside the grave of his first wife.

There survive his widow and her six children, two daughters of whom are married and live near the home and the others small children at home, and also six more children by Mr. Bowen's first marriage. These last six children are: Claude Bowen of Locust Hill; Warner Bowen and Mrs. Ida Mumford of Nebraska, both of whom came for the funeral; Mrs. Fred Murray of Hurdland, and Mrs. Emma Ausmus and Mrs. Fannie Bowen of Novelty.

Mr. Bowen was born Jan. 13, 1844, on the old Bowen farm, which joined his own farm. He was the last living member of a large family of children of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bowen. In his early manhood he was married to Nannie Hodges and they were the parents of twelve children. Six of the children are dead, four dying when small, Mrs. Alice Aucutt some years ago and John O. Bowen about twelve years ago. Mrs. Bowen died Feb 22, 1900. Some years later Mr. Bowen married a second time, to Mary Dugan, who survives.
