Rev. Anton Heiter, D.D. was a native of the small town of Spier (Rülzheim) in Rhein Provence in Germany, and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Buffalo New York in 1875. He arrived in Buffalo shortly after his ordination.
Father Heiter had been, at the time of his death, pastor, for 30 years,of the former Seven Dolors Parish in Buffalo. He served German-American residents of the city and built the Church (now a museum -Known as St. Mary of Sorrows church.) The church is a magnificent structure and a landmark in the City.
He also built a convent and schools and was involved in the erection of the German-Roman Catholic Orphan Asylum.
Dr. Heiter was also a writer of several theological books.
