Charles and his first wife, Marianne (Odier) Monnier, lived in Pennsylvania, Buffalo, New York, then Nebraska. After her death, he moved to Illinois. His second wife was named Mary Coker, widow of Samuel Martin.

His father and mother changed the surname to Monnie and continued to live in Pennsylvania.
