He served in 19 circuits over a period of 34 years before retiring in Doncaster. He and his wife Hannah had no children.

Parted friends again may meet From the toils of nature free Crown it with mercy O how sweet Will eternal friendships be. Also Hannah wife of the above born March 6th 1806 died December 19th 1890. Her lanquishing head is at rest It's thinking and aching are o'er Her quiet immoveable breast Is heaved by affliction no more.
