Philippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Waterford, Ireland, he served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. On the dates of March 25, 27, 29 and April 5, 1899, Corporal Pendegrast was one of three Marines attached to the 8th Army Corps, involved in the jungle fighting against insurgent forces in the Philippine Islands. He distinguished himself in capturing the rebel capital of Malolos and forcing the insurgent command to retreat northward into the mountains. For bravery in the face of the enemy, he was promoted Sergeant and awarded the Medal of Honor on July 19, 1901. His official Medal of Honor citation spells his last name as "Prendergast." A new military grave marker was dedicated on October 2, 2004.
