BIOGRAPHICAL:

Moses Brown, farmer and horse doctor, was born in Preble Co., OH on Dec. 1, 1819, the son of Isaac and Mary Brown, natives of N.C. and OH respectively. His parents moved to Henry Co., IN, in 1823, and settled in the woods of northern Liberty Twp. Isaac, Moses' father, was an industrious man, although he underwent many hardships in the new country, he cleared and cultivated one of the best farms in the township. His parents were among the first members and founders, in the township, of the Society of Friends. Moses was one of 10 children of which 8 lived to maturity. He married Delphia Dowell, of N.C. born Apr. 15, 1819 the daughter of Peter and Margaret Dowell, on Mar. 8, 1839. After their marriage, they lived 13 years in Blue River Twp. but in 1852 moved to a farm in Liberty Twp. Moses and Delphia were active members of the Society of Friends. They had 11 children: Anna, Joseph M., Isaac D., Margaret A., Aaron D., Samuel H., James A., John A., Delphia J., Henry P. and Mary E. Joseph M. enlisted in 1862, in the 69th Ind. Infantry, and served 6 months. Mr. Brown was a practical farmer, a man of good judgement and a successful horse doctor. His farm was of 180 acres with 160 acres under cultivation.


Moses Brown was the son of Isaac and Mary (Mendenhall) Brown born in Preble Co., OH. He married on Mar. 8, 1839 in Henry Co., IN to Delphia Dowell. Moses and Delphia had at least 11 children in 1884 only 9 are still living.
