Born in Provincetown, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Annie (Rego) Tarvis.
A lifelong resident of Provincetown, she attended local schools and was a devout member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish. In 2000 she retired from the maintenance department of the Cape Cod National Seashore after 30 years of service.
Prior to marrying Mr. Amaral she was married to Joseph A. Ward, who died in 1969.
She is survived by her three sons, Joseph Ward and wife Debbie of Florida, Christopher Ward of Centerville, and John Ward and wife Judy of Truro; four daughters, Evelyn Costa of Provincetown, Susanne Cook and husband Christopher of Mattapoisett, Eileen Grosso and husband Peter of Provincetown, and Dorothy Morris and husband Paul of North Truro; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Bollas of Provincetown and Gladys Silva of Florida. She was predeceased by two daughters, Carol, who died in 2006, and Marianne, who died in 2008.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown, at 10 a.m. on Friday July 9.
