Jean was born in Moorview House, Gortnavern, daughter of Nathaniel Patterson Rogers II and Annie Elizabeth McKinney.

Great-granddaughter of the Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Patterson Rogers of Moorview House, minister of the Leiter Presbyterian Church. He was known for providing a hot meal to all in need during the Potato Famine of 1846-47.

Jean resided in Aughnish with her husband James Fenton Grier. Sadly, two of their four children, Newton and Fenton, died in childhood from cystic fibrosis and are buried in the Tullyaughnish Burying Ground in Ramelton. Ruth and Noel survive.

We visited the Grier Family Home in Aughnish over the Christmas Holiday in 1964. Jean was most gracious to the five of us - it was a wonderful gathering.

My grandmother used to fly over to visit her Grier cousins during the 1950s; my mother and Jean's husband Jim had both lost their sight by the 1990s and exchanged cassette tapes in lieu of letters. Jean's daughter Ruth and I communicate by email.
