...In 1900, Bessie Lee Farr was born to Mattie Rowland and Charles Carlton Farr. Her two brothers were Carlton Rowland Farr (1896-1900) and Frank Stanton Farr (1902-1993). In 1920 she was married to Alfred Tennyson "Fred" Davis (1893-1969). To this union three children were born:
(1.) Julia Marion Davis (1924-2008) who married Luther S. Turner and lived in West Point, Georgia.
(2.) Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Davis (1928-2011) who married Harold A. Shirley, and lived in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
(3.) Alfred Tennyson Davis (1933-2002 ) who married Sherron Lazenby, and lived in Sanford, Florida.
Bessie Farr Davis died in 1994 and her lifetime of generosity and kindness was evidence that Peter Rowland's blood flowed through her veins. May all his descendants leave such "footprints in the sands of time".
Note by Churchwell: "Miss" Bessie's chicken pie was legendary at "dinner on the grounds" at Rock Spring Baptist Church homecoming each year on the 3rd Sunday in July.
