Wife of Albert Nussbaum Dies at Home Tuesday
Funeral Friday for 37-Year-Old Mother of Four Children
Mrs. Grace Marie Nussbaum, 37, wife of Albert Nussbaum of
Monroe Township, and the mother of four children, died at her
home five miles northwest of Berne at 1:20 o’clock Tuesday
afternoon. The Nussbaum family lives on the old Mathias
Liechty farm, on the Monroe-French Township line. Death
came after an illness of eight years. She suffered from a
kidney ailment and complications.
Mrs. Nussbaum had been bedfast for eight weeks. She was
taken to Adams County Hospital on June 24 and returned to
her home last Saturday, July 4 . She suffered much at times.
She had been in serious condition several years ago, and
then improved somewhat until the last few months when her
condition again became worse.
Mrs. Nussbaum was born in Adams County on October 31,
1904, a daughter of Adolph and Lydia Meyer Reinhard. She
was married to Albert Nussbaum January 27, 1924, the
wedding taking place in Berne. They lived in Berne after their
marriage until 11 years ago when they moved to the farm
where death occurred.
Surviving are the husband, two sons and two daughters. ​
They are Betty Jane Nussbaum, who graduated from Monroe
High School this spring, Robert Lewis, Pauline Lucile and
David Herman, all at home. The father, Adolph Reinhard and
the step-mother survive. They live in Washington Township.
The following brothers and sisters also survive: Arnold
Reinhard, Fort Wayne; Harry, who is in military service and
stationed at Pine Camp, New York; Carl, Chicago; Howard,
French Township; Mrs. Harry (Esther) Lehman, Monroe
Township; Miss Ruth Reinhard, of Berne, the office nurse and
secretary to Dr. M. L. Habegger; Mary, Muncie, and Alice at
Chicago. A brother, Herman, died here three years ago and
the mother preceded sixteen years ago.
Mrs. Nussbaum was a member of the Mennonite Church.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1:15 o’clock at
the home and at 2:00 o’clock at the Mennonite Church. Rev.
Alfred Clauser, local retired pastor and Rev. Russel Weller,
pastor of the Pleasant Dale Church in Kirkland Township, will
officiate. Burial will be in the MRE Cemetery.
