While Dan served as PFC U.S. Army in the Korean War, he was stationed at some point in the DC/Virginia area. After his service with the Army he then worked in construction with his 1st wife family (1st wife living as of 2023), then began his career as a long haul driver; Dan continued being a long haul driver up to his death.
