Eliza Jane Shy was born at Shyville, Ohio, on October 4 1870 to Henry and Clara (Knaper) Shy. October 25, 1896 she married John Vallery of Waverly, Ohio. After the death of her brother Henry in 1898 they took two of his children into their home and raised them. They lived on farms near Waverly until he was elected Treasurer of Pike County in 1902. he served two terms. He also served two terms as Sheriff of Pike County. They purchased a farm in Madison County, Ohio, where they lived until their deaths. Eliza died October 28, 1939 and is buried at Range Township Cemetery, Madison County, Ohio.
