Luther Rockwell (Fritz) Carr, one of Keya Paha County’s pioneer residents, passed away Saturday, May 7, 1955, at the Ainsworth Hospital, following a few days’ illness.

Luther Rockwell Carr, son of Eli Carr and Catherine Shutz, was born March 18, 1869, at Rulo, Nebraska. He passed away at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 19 days.

He was married to Alice Rogers at Springview, Nebraska, February 14, 1890. To this union were born seven children, two sons and five daughters. Eldra passed away in infancy. Also his wife who preceded him in death June 6, 1911, leaving him with the care of the family of little ones which he lovingly and carefully guided throughout the years.

He spent most of his life in and near Springview, having lived on a farm near Springview until his retirement. He knew the hardships of pioneering all through the years he worked. He was never too busy to help a neighbor or a friend in any way possible. No task was too large or too small for him. He loved his country, community and his many friends. Little children, to him, were priceless and sound of glee and laughter could be heard whenever they were together.

He was a man of great strength of character; honesty and integrity crowned his living. Never did he complain but was always thankful for the good which came to him.

Surviving him are his six children who were at his bedside at the time of his death, Leslie (Mrs. Laurits) Johnson, Springview, Nebraska; Roy O of Atkinson Nebraska; Nell (Mrs. Henry) Johnson, Springview; George H., Springview; Alma (Mrs. Frank) Sloan, Springview; Doris (Mrs. Charles) Sloan of Atkinson; also seventeen grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He will be greatly missed for his words of love and encouragement. His faith and life are portrayed in these words: “Grow old, along with me, the best is yet to be. Our times are in His hands who sayeth, trust God, be not afraid.”
