"John Sebastian Wittinger (68) loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband passed peacefully away in Portland, Oregon.

"John was born to Anton & Anna (Metzker) Wittinger; his father was a butcher & his mother a teacher.

"John's parents and four siblings immigrated to Chicago from the Hungarian village of Torokbalint (outside of Budapest). His father came first in 1907; his mother & siblings in 1910. John was the fifth of six siblings: Tony, Rose, Mary, Anna, John and Barbara.

"The family moved to North Dakota and homesteaded near Fayette, North Dakota (1915-1920). John grew up on a farm and married Ann Hartman 1941. They resided on the Wittinger farm; farming the land until 1948, when the John and Ann moved to Portland, Oregon for health reasons. They they lived in the area till passing.

"Ann and John raised two children Donna (Fagan, Noce) and Rodney. John owned & operated a Texaco station before being employed by Union Pacific Railroad at the Swan Island facility as a RR car builder; the job from which he retired after 30 years.

"John is survived by two children, six grand children and eight great grand children.

"He was very active in family life and was known as an dancer, singer and musician. He was an avid golfer, bowler, conversationalist and sports follower."
