Mary Callan Lynn was born on December 14, 1917, in Dayton, Idaho, to Emma Hulet and Stephen James Callan. She passed away peacefully at her home in Bountiful, Utah on July 19, 2010, surrounded by her family.

Her life of more than 92 years was filled with rewarding experiences centering on family, church (including service in the Primary organization and in ward and stake Relief Society), travel, reading, crossword puzzles, and many other interests. Her widowed mother, who served for 15 years as Treasurer of Franklin County, Idaho, encouraged her children to gain an education. After graduating from Preston High School at age 16, Mary enrolled at Brigham Young University and at 20 she received her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Commerce. Her education contributed to her always-growing appreciation of music and literature as well as to her professional skills. To finance her schooling, she worked as secretary to Dean Herald R. Clark, who continued to praise her throughout his life as the best secretary he had ever had. After graduation, she was secretary to BYU President Franklin Harris and to acting President Christen Jensen. She then went to Washington, D. C. and served in the Office of Chief of Naval Operations. Later, while living in California, she continued to work as a secretary at Lockheed Aircraft during World War II.

In 1941 she returned to Utah to marry Gerald Orvel Lynn in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in Burbank, California, for 53 years, and moved to Utah in 1997. He preceded her in death by only seven months. Their mutual devotion during almost 68 years of marriage contributed to their long and productive lives.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Davidson (David), Barbara Rencher (Roy), and Diana Roskuski (Ron). Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. They include grandchildren Deborah Lin (Solomon), Brent Henderson (Inna), Jeffrey Henderson, Mary Ince (William), and Katherine English (Christopher); and great-grandchildren Naomi Lin, Joshua Lin, Daniel Lin, Rebekah Callan Lin, Sasha Arefyev, and Diana Callan Ince. She is also survived by her sister Virginia Callan Merrill (Sam) and sisters-in law Iris Lynn Kindred and Reva Knight Lynn. Many other relatives from the Lynn and Callan families, as well as her many friends, enriched Mary's life and were in turn enriched themselves. She will be greatly missed by the many who love her.

She was well known for her gracious manner and keen intellect. She continued to be her appreciative, articulate, and lovely self – an elect lady - until the very end of her life. Her family thanks the kind staff of the Inn on Barton Creek and South Davis Hospice, as well as the dedicated leaders of the Barton Creek Branch.

Following a brief service, interment will take place on July 21 in Dayton, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund.

Arrangements by Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary.
