IRA B. CLOPTON

Ira Blakely Clopton was born to David A. and Kate E. Clopton December 9, 1888 at the homestead north of Springview and died at the Bethesda Nursing Home at Bassett on February 20, 1982 at the age of 93.

He attended rural schools and was well known thorughout the area for his foot racing and baseball playing ability in younger years. He spent all his life ranching in Keya Paha County and highly prized good stock and Hereford cows. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He was united in marriage to Florence Edna Fox on May 21, 1919 at Springview, and to them a son, Neil, who operates the home place, was born. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1969. They retired from the ranch and moved into a new home in Springview in 1963.

"Ike" as he was known to many, was a true gentleman, a quiet man of many virtues. We weep in this hour of his passing and give thanks for the fullness of his life.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister, a sister, Myrtle Meyers and a brother, Ray.

He is survived by his wife, Edna, son Neil and wife Nila; two grandchildren, Jim and Julie; one sister, Wilda Osborn, Loveland, Colordo and other relatives.

Services were held at 10:30 am February 24 at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. C. Curtis Norlin and Rev. Charles Baily officiating. Mrs. Doris Weddel provided music. Pallbearers were Gerry Osborn, Dale Osborn, David Clopton, Dale Hollingsworth, Duane Philben and Raleigh Ripley. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Springview.
