David was a first cousin to my mom, Joan. I remember when David passed away unexpectedly, Mom was very upset. It was a very sad occasion ~ not just for David's family down in Florida, but for us up here in Indiana. David passed away almost a year before Mom did, and they were the same age. Mom died on November 11th at age 61, David on November 24th, age 61...
I remember David always leading us in prayer at our Batzka "get-togethers". He was good at it, seeing as he was a minister. He always invited each and every one of us to go and visit down in Florida. Sadly, that never happened.
I remember the very last time I saw David. It was a dreary, cold July 4th. We were all spending the day in North Manchester, IN. ~ at the home of his brother, Steve. David, his wife, Vickie and daughter came up from Florida for one our "get-togethers." I have a photo, somewhere...It was so cold that day! He tried to make the best of the situation for us. It was nice to see everyone ~ we just had no idea it would be the last time...

David Lee Batzka, age 61, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2002 in a local hospital. He was a native of Indiana, but resided in Jacksonville for the past 28 years. He was a Gerontologist. He was an ordained minister for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), having served the elderly at Florida Christian Center in Jacksonville, Taylor Residences of Jacksonville and Advent Christian Village of Dowling Park, FL. He was a member of the Florida Association of Homes for the Aging.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Vickie Batzka; two daughters, Candice Watson (Blake Mills) and Diana Leigh Batzka; grandson, Gareth Watson-Mills; and a brother, Stephen Batzka.
Memorial services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Riverside Avenue Christian Church with Richard Hull officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside Avenue Christian Church, 2841 Riverside Ave., Jax., FL 32205 or Advent Christian Village, Resource Development, P.O. Box 4305, Dowling Park, FL 32064.
