Eleanor's death certificate lists her first name as Christian and her middle name as Eleanor. This was a fact unknown to her family prior to this document being found. She was simply known as Eleanor or Ellen.

Christian Eleanor "Ellen" (Herington) Gentry was the daughter of Isaac Ely Herington, Sr. (1819-1901) who was born in Ralls County, Missouri and died in Knox County, Missouri; and Jane A. (Fisher) Herington (1825-1904) who was born in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, United Kingdom, and died in Knox County, Missouri, USA.

Eleanor was the third of nine known children in this Herington family. Her siblings were:

On August 26, 1877, in Shelby County, Missouri, Eleanor married Francis Marion Gentry (1848-1933). They had two sons:

Leon Ellsworth "Lee" Gentry (1879-1964)
Dr. Aubrey Austin Gentry, Sr. (1884-1964)

Eleanor died in January of 1933 from influenza and pneumonia at the age of 82 (Missouri Death Certificate #7). She and Francis were living in their home at 1415 E. Scott Street in Kirksville, Missouri at this time. Her husband Francis died just 7 months later in August of 1933 at the home of their son Dr. Aubrey Gentry in Trenton, Grundy County, Missouri. Both are buried at LaPlata Cemetery next to Eleanor's sister Jennie (Herington) Bowen and her husband.
