George was an aircraft mechanic at time of marriage to Frances in 1939.
He was hired in 1941 as a Captain for Northwest Orient Airlines. The airlines were desperately seeking to hire Captains due to most of them having to fight during World War II. He rose to be #11 in the company.
George retired during marriage to Ruby.
George R. Smith, 70, died December 13, 1987. He was born in Milton, Washington, he lived here most of his life. Mr. Smith was a Northwest Orient Airline pilot for 35 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Sumner Church of Christ, the Auburn Elks and Retired Airline Pilots Association.
Survivors: wife, Ruby, of the home; sons, Brian Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Dale Smith, Mel Smith; daughter, Georgi Smith; sister, Dolly Overman; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
