He was serving with the Camp Bastion Force Protection Wing deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
SAC Griffiths, the signaller and driver for the B Flight commander, was killed in a road accident while on vehicle patrol north of Camp Bastion in Helmand Province.
Aged 20, he grew up in Calmore, Hampshire, and moved to Exmouth three years ago. He enlisted as a gunner in February 2009 and completed training in July as "Best Shot". SAC Griffiths was stationed at RAF Honington. He was on his first operational deployment. After his tour, he intended to complete pre-parachute selection training with a view to eventually serving with the UK Special Forces. Described as very hardworking and resourceful, he was an affable and thoughtful young man with huge potential. He kept fit by working out, running and playing football.
SAC Griffiths is survived by his parents Nik and Tracey Cool, sisters Bianca-Jade and Sammy-Jo, brother Jake, his girlfriend Chloe Gunn, other family members and many friends.
Funeral with full military honours was held on August 10, 2010 at Littleham Parish Church, Littleham-cum-Exmouth, Devon. The service was preceded by a RAF Tornado jet flypast.
