Anna Caroline Glienke was born in August 1827, in West Prussia/Germany to Michael and Justine Glienke.

In 1864, Anna married Carl Dobrinski, and they later had at least four children together, including Charles, born 1865; and Gustav, born 1871.

In 1888, travel documents indicate Anna and Carl came to America accompanied by their son Gustav. They settled in the Geneseo/ Colona, Illinois, area with Carl dying just a few years later in 1893. Anna was documented as living with her son Gustav during the 1900 federal census. Anna also likely lived with her other son Charles at times following the death of Carl.

Anna died on November 2, 1904, in Colona, Illinois, with burial at the Dayton cemetery on November 3, 1904, per local church records.

Notes

Dobrinski is the surname noted in German records. In America, family members and descendants first transitioned to Drobrinsky and then to Dobrinske. The grave marker for Anna was likely added many years later during a time period when other family members had transitioned to Dobrinske. While Anna was alive, not a single record was found for her using the Dobrinske name. Dobrinski was judged more appropriate for naming this memorial and for honoring the Carl Dobrinski surname.

There is indication that Anna gave birth to several children while in Germany, but their dispositions are not fully researched. Some may have died during child birth or as infants. Records also indicate a marriage prior to Carl, and you will note Anna was born several years prior to Carl. Records indicate Anna and Carl were parents to: Wilhelmine Anna, born 1866, died 1868; and Reinhard Leopold, born 1868, died 1870. Since only Anna's children of Charles and Gustav are known to have come to America, those are the only ones for which we otherwise have nearly complete histories.

This contributor has reviewed the actual local church record which has Anna passing away in 1904 rather than 1903 indicated by the grave marker. Based upon how the church register was created with entries for people passing away in 1905 toward the bottom of the same page, there is no doubt from the record that death occurred in 1904.

Local church records in Illinois documented Anna's birth date as August 24, 1827. In Europe, birth records hand-written in a cursive German style confirm the August 1827 birth, but the day of month is difficult to decifer and ancestry-related databases have arrived at differing values for the day of month. August 1827 is assigned for this memorial.
