Charles Dobrinske died in his home in Colona, Illinois, on Friday morning January 4, 1952, coincidentally on the 52nd wedding anniversary with his second wife Hannah.

Mr. Dobrinske was a retired farmer and had lived in the Geneseo and Colona communities for over 60 years.

Mr. Dobrinske was born in Germany in January 1865 to Anna and Carl Dobrinski and moved to America as a young man. In 1889 he married Auguste Kukuk. Charles and Auguste had two daughters together, Anna born 1891, and Lillie born 1894. There were also two boys born who only lived a few months each, one in 1890 and one in 1893. Auguste died in 1898.

On January 4, 1900, Charles Dobrinske married Hanna Schwartz in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Edford township and had since lived in and around that community. Charles and Hannah had five children together: Grace, born 1902; Clarence, born 1904; William, born 1906; Edna and Alfred (twins), born 1909.

Notes

Although simply known as "Charles" in America by family and others, the name in German birth records is Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Dobrinski. Since few if any people would know him by that name, this memorial has been named by how people knew him in America, how the grave marker is labelled, and consistent with how the local obituary reported his name as Charles F. Dobrinske.

Dobrinski is the surname noted in German records. In America, family members and descendants first transitioned to Drobrinsky and then to Dobrinske.

An obituary for Charles Dobrinske published in a newspaper mentions that three sons and a brother preceded him in death. I am aware of two sons who each died a few months after birth. Possibly there is another son who died at an early age for which no records have yet been found. Charles did have a brother Gustav who died in 1935.
