On October 9, 1889, Auguste Kukuk married Charles Dobrinsky in Morristown, Illinois.
Auguste and Charles had two daughters together, Anna born 1891, and Lillie born 1894. There were also two boys born who only lived a few months each, one in 1890 and one in 1893.
Tragically, Auguste died on October 14, 1898, at the young age of 28. According to a report in the Moline Review Dispatch, dated Friday, October 21, 1898:
"Colona, Ill., October 21. – Mr. Charles Dobrinsky, south of Green River, went from home last Friday, leaving his wife with his mother in apparently good health. Shortly before his return she complained of headache, and in a few minutes expired. Her funeral services were held on the Sabbath. Her sudden demise was a great shock to her husband and friends. Until recently they resided here."
A separate news account reported that Gusta had taken ill in the morning of October 14 with a headache, and she passed away in the afternoon.
Although Gusta died at the age of 28, she was the eldest child of the family of Frederick and Caroline Kukuk.
Notes
The parent names for Gusta mentioned above are spelled as stated in the "Register of Marriages" for the marriage with Charles Dobrinsky in 1889.
A local Illinois church has documented Gusta's birth date as January 20, 1870. Ancestry-related websites have arrived at different dates in January purportedly based upon a review of German birth records. January 1870 is assigned for this memorial.
Dobrinsky was the surname in most records for Charles upon arrival in America from Germany including his marriage to Auguste and even for the later marriages of the daughters Anna and Lillie in 1911. After that time frame Charles more consistently used the surname Dobrinske.
For Auguste, some alternate first names in the record include Gusta and Augusta, with Gusta the most commonly used nickname. One reference lists her full maiden name in Germany as Auguste Louise Kukuk; this is believed likely to be correct, but records found in the United States have not yet mentioned the Louise name.
A memorial has been created for Gusta's son born in 1893 as sufficient information exists on burial details. For the son who was born and also passed away in 1890, no firm information exists on burial location. His remains may reside at the Dayton cemetery with other family members, but with a fire involving cemetery records years ago, cemetery staff could not confirm (or rule out) a burial for that person. Also, it is possible the remains for the son born in 1890 could reside at a local church cemetery which also cannot fully account for persons buried there.
