He came to America in 1866 through Canada and in 1870 he made his way to Massachusetts and settled in Lynn where he met Martha Wright Brundage while staying at her Mother's boarding house in Lynn, Martha's Mother was Ann (McCauley) Brundage. They were married on May 18, 1871 at the Oxford St. Chapel in Lynn. They would have 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls and one of those 5 boys was my Great Grandfather George Arthur Elder.
John was a house builder and he built the house that they lived in at Tracy Avenue in Lynn and it is still standing today.
