George was the son of Aaron S. and Elizabeth McKenzie. He married Nancy C. DeLap on 19 October 1869, in White County, Illinois. They were the parents of two children both of whom predeceased George, Mary E. and William.

He was survived by three grandchildren, Raymond, Nancy, & Mrs. Claud Hardesty; three great grandchildren, Lowell, Madge & Car Hardesty; five brothers, Mack of California, John of McLeansboro, Dan of Mt. Vernon and Marshall of Norris City; and two sisters, Mrs. Clarissa Hughes of Cottonwood and Mrs. Amanada Fairweather.

Submitted information indicates George's middle name was Solomon and he was born in Hamilton County, Illinois.
