Armstrong Funeral Held Last Saturday
Funeral services for R.H. Armstrong, who died Thursday of last week, from injuries he received when struck by a passing automobile, were held from the L.O. Turner Funeral Home in this city Saturday. Burial took place at Arlington. Mr. Armstrong was born in Tupelo, Mississippi in 1858 and was 76 years of age at the time of his death. He was a son of Cade Armstrong, one of the South's pioneer families. He grew to manhood in his native state, and it was there that he was married to Miss Dora Merritt when he was 21 years of age. The family lived in Mississippi, until 1900, when they came to Texas and settled in Royce City. A few years later they moved to Lee county and came to this community in 1917. In 1919 he secured the appointment as postmaster of Dalworth Park, which position he held at the time of his death. For several years he conducted a small grocery in connection with the post office. Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Baptist church. In 1910, while living in Willow Springs, he was converted and immediately joined the church. Funeral services were conducted by his paster, Hulon Coffman last Saturday. Mr. Armstrong is survived by four children as follows: Mrs. Blanche Jones of Fort Worth; Mrs. A.L. Grissom and Mrs. E.C. Lamb, of Dallas and Owen Armstrong of Dalworth. Mrs. Armstrong passed on in April 1928. Four children also preceded the mother and father in death.
