Enlisted in Capt. William C. Bromley's Co., 2 Reg't Mississippi Volunteers on 6 February, 1861 at Richmond, Mississippi for a period of twelve months. He was discharged in Richmond, Virginia on 16 May, 1862. The reason given for the discharge was military exemption because of age.

Enlisted in Co. C. of the 12th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry on 12 February, 1863 by Captain Cox. He enlisted as a 3rd Lieutenant at Verona, Mississippi for the period of the War. Pay receipts indicated that he was paid $90 per month for himself and his horse.

Had one other child, Lillian Lee (1856-1893, died in Denton, TX).
