Jesse was a son of Lois Daggett & Ezekial Bates. His siblings were Gamaliel T. (died Nov. 28, 1829, Cambridge, MA), John T. and Mary Ann.
Jesse married Mary E. Fowle on July 9, 1845. They had 2 children: Lois Elizabeth and William. Another unnamed son died Aug. 25, 1846. (Cambridge, MA)
Census in 1850 states that he was living in Attleboro, MA and he was a carpenter. In 1860 he was listed as a Farmer. All through 1900 he was in Attleboro and either listed as a carpenter after 1860. Jesse's father was a master builder and contractor for many years in Boston with the firm Bates & Kelsey. Gamaliel Bates was Jesse's grandfather.

Jesse died from 'senile decay'.
