Around 1830, Thomas was part of a group of about 100 people (consisting of several families; all related by blood or marriage) that left Bullitt County, Kentucky for the promise of land in the new state of Missouri. This wagon train included his wife, Jemima (Newkirk), sons Drake, Elisha and Charles and daughter Kitty. On February 13, 1832, their daughter, Martha, was born as they were en route to Missouri by way of Indiana. In March of the following year, Thomas died in Indiana. He was buried in an unmarked grave.
