John Poole is Dead at Ty Ty
Funeral services were held at Ty Ty, (Ga) Monday afternoon for John Phillip Poole, 64, a native of Schley County, who died unexpectedly at his home there Sunday morning. The services were conducted by the Re. D. C. Rainey and Re. F.O. Mixon, of Tifton and burial was in the Ty Ty Cemetery. Mr. Poole was born in Schley county in 1875 a son of T.J. and Lou Walters Poole. He had lived in Tift County for the past 25 years and for 20 years had been a policeman at Ty Ty. He is survived by his father, Tom Poole, Ellaville, his widow who was Miss Vessie Dunn of Schley county, and the following children: Mrs. W.C. Bailey and Mrs. E.P. Lofton, Tifton, Mrs. R. L. Stephens, Sumner, Mrs Robert Black, Vidalia, and Miss Ida Poole, Ty Ty. four brothers and four sisters:H. I. Poole and Mrs. Edgar Hill, Sylvester; Claude, Tom and Bob Poole, Mrs. Fletcher Devane and Mrs. Bob Wall, Schley County, and Mrs. William Hill Columbus. He was buried in Ty Ty Cemetery, Ty Ty, Tift Co, Ga.
1904 The Schley Count News Thursday Nov 17, 1904 vol. XIV NO,. 47 reported a change in city affairs: Owing to the resignation of Mr. J.P. Poole, who has faithfully served the town for the past two years as Marshall, the Mayor as appointed Mr. W.W. Lumpkin to fill out the unexpired term of Marshall Poole, which ends on Feb. 1st. Mr. Lumpkin has previously served us in the capacity of Marshall and during his term of office, he gave entire satisfaction. Therefore it is safe to predict that the interest of the town will be amply protected under his care.
