EVENTS IN SOCIETY
The home of Mr. and Mrs. William Burns, 311 Sixth avenue, on Tuesday evening was the scene of a most enjoyable surprise party, in honor of their son, Mearl, who has passed his seventeenth milestone. The evening was spent in various games and many solos were rendered by Mr. Leslie Ott, and many card tricks were performed by Professor Thomas Torrens. At midnight a delicious luncheon was served. Then at an early h our they departed for their homes. Those present were: Misses Mattie Ott, Mary Yingling, Ella Conrad of East Freedom, Lillian Burns, Verne Koeher, Mary Plank, Ruth Wolf, Stella Miles, Pearl Ott, Alice Slack, Mary Burns, Grace Hoover, Helen Eby, Florence Greenick, Catharine Burns, Mrs. Mary Burns, Mrs. Emma Burns, Messrs. Charlie Ott, Clare Kocher, Mart Wolf, Earnest Bagnol, Leslie Ott, Leo Holland, Thomas Torence, Harry Burns, Paul Drake, Joseph Watson, Guy Coffman, Clyde Fry, Mearl Burns, Gay Ott, Francis Burns, Clyde Nicodemus, Ed Fassio, Charles Burns, William Burns and W. Condrin.

EDWARD MEARL BURNS
Of 1602 11th St., died at 10.05 p.m. yesterday in Valley View Home after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona Feb. 1, 1895, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Burns. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; three children, a step-daughter, 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several brothers and sisters. Friends will be received in the Hickey Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
