Latter Day Saint Dies at Cardston
CARDSTON (HNS) — A resident of southern Alberta for 61 years, Mrs. E. J. (Mary Ann) Wood, wife of the late President Edward J. Wood, died at Cardston Sunday morning at the age of 94.
She had been ill for some time.
Born in Salt Lake City the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Solomon, she married E. J. Wood in 1892 in the LDS Manti Temple. After residing in Salt Lake City and Tooele the couple moved to Canada in 1901, settling at Cardston.
Mr. and Mrs. Wood both served as officiators at the Alberta Temple for 25 years.
Mr. Wood was president of the Alberta Temple at Cardston and the Alberta Stake of the LDS Church. He died in 1958.
Mrs. Wood had the unique distinction of having entertained all LDS Church authorities since Brigham Young's time.
The past six years Mrs. Wood had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Fern Smith.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Smith, Cardston; Mrs. Archie (Myrtle) Smith, Hill Spring; Mrs. Glen (Olive) Nielson, Cody, Wyoming; three sons, Forest, Cardston; Dale, Glenwood and Vi, Edmonton; also 33 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held in the Alberta Stake Chapel in Cardston Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Bishop Dr. R. Spackman officiating.
Interment will follow in Cardston cemetery.
