Lt. Col. Woodrow "Woody" M. Bell

Lt. Col. Woodrow "Woody" M. Bell, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), 92, of San Antonio, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at the Northeast Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. He was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Bellville, Texas, to George Bell and Annie Reinecker Bell. He married Bertrice "Tina" Hoffmann on Oct. 28, 1950, in New Braunfels.

Lt. Col. Bell retired from the U.S. Air Force after 31 years of service to his country. He was a member of the San Antonio Missions Baseball Team and was a former general manager of the team. He played baseball with Texas A&M during his college years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Annie Bell; brother Reno, Lloyd and Roy C. (Beau) Bell; sisters Cordella Dashiell, Mozelle Jackson and Joyce Simpson. He is survived by his wife Bertrice "Tina" H. Bell of San Antonio; son Russell E. Bell and wife Diane of College Station, Texas; daughter Susan K. Bremer and husband Byron L. of San Antonio; grandchildren Woodrow M. Bell, Lauren K. Bell, Eric R. Bremer and Bradley K. Bremer; sister-in-law Lorine Haecker of San Antonio, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 2, 2009, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services are Tuesday March 3, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Judkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of one's choice.
