--Sun-Sentinel, 7 June 1988
Mrs. Eden is listed in the 1930 Census as a public schoolteacher. She lived with her parents in Oak Park until 1940, and then in Springfield, IL when her father got a job with the Illinois Secretary of State's office. It is thought that her mother and sister were both in ill health for many years, and it may have fallen to Evelyn to care for them. After her parents, sister and brother-in-law died, Evelyn lived in Chicago, and got married at age 53. A year later, she and her husband, Walter, moved to Ft. Lauderdale.
Though Mrs. Eden has a headstone at Concordia Cemetery, where most of her family is interred, she changed her mind after her brother's funeral. His ashes were scattered in the canal near their church, and Evelyn left instructions to have her ashes scattered there as well.
