Spc. Roger Lee, 26, of Monterey, Calif., died July 6 at Qalat, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, Hohenfels, Germany. He enjoyed fighting for freedom. Roger was born and raised in Monterey and graduated from Monterey High School. He met his wife, Elvina while attending Arizona Automotive Institute in Glendale, Ariz. Roger participated in the Air Force ROTC in high school and worked security at the Monterey Institute of International Studies before joining the military. He was looking into continuing service in the army and was also interested in starting his own security company. Roger was last home over the Christmas holiday. Also killed were, Staff Sgt. Marc A. Arizmendez, 30, Of Anaheim, Calif., and Pfc. Michael S. Pridham, 19, Of Louisville, Ky.
