Two-car crash proves fatal - Mrs. Clesta Berdett Browning, 60, of 1721 Columbus Rd., died in Community Hospital Sunday following a two-car collision at Old Columbus Rd. and Ohio 54 Saturday afternoon. Her auto failed to halt at a stop sign and was struck by a car driven by Thelma Louise Edwards, 41, of Mechanicsburg, according to Ohio Highway Patrolmen. Mrs. Edward's car slide into a ditch. Witnesses said Mrs. Browning's auto then started moving again and slammed in to the corner of a Clark County storage building about 75 feet away. Patrolmen said Mrs. Browning apparently kept the accelerator pressed to the floor either because of the confusion or injuries. One of her car's tires was burned away when they arrived on the scene. Mrs. Edwards was treated at Community and released. Mrs. Browning was the widow of Oren Browning, who died May 21, 1967. A Springfield resident for the past 40 years, she was born in Jackson County, O. She was a former employee of the Ohio Masonic Home. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hayden of Springfield, and one nephew. Her body was taken to the Richards Memorial Home, where there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the memorial home by the Rev. Joseph Rolph. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
