Harry was a son of James Danford and Margaret A. Kappell. He began his career as a teacher in the Noble County, Ohio schools and then was a junior high school principal in Huntington, West Virginia and retired as superintendent of the Huntington WV schools. Mr. Danford was a former Caldwell resident and at one time editor of the Republican Journal. After leaving Ohio he became an author of note and wrote books of fiction. Some of his books are: The West Virginian; The Trail of the Gray Dragoon; Builders of the West; Ohio Valley Pioneers; and Soakum.
He first married Minnie M. Gouchenour they had a child Dwight E. Danford who died in a car accident in 1926. His second wife was Emma Belle Turney who he married on August 25, 1921 in Huntington, Cabell Co., West Virginia. To this union were born two sons; Harry Edmund jr. and Jame Turney Danford.
