After graduating from Lubbock High School, she attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a B.A. At Tech she met and later married Bonner Cummings. They were married 35 years before his death in 1975. She devoted her life to raising three children and establishing a Christian home.

Travels took her to such distant places as Israel, China, and Europe. She participated in a number of bus tours with her Sunday school class. Her favorite destinations were to visit family members.

Besides travel, Frances loved to garden and to read, a passion she maintained throughout her life. Over the years she enjoyed numerous creative pursuits: sewing, handiwork, and ceramics. She also enjoyed the game of bridge as well as other games, and was a dedicated Red Raider fan.
