KITTERY, Maine — Patricia Ann Diego, 78, of Oak Terrace in Kittery, died suddenly at Portsmouth Regional Hospital on July 3, 2010.
Born in Newark, N.J., on July 20, 1931, she was a daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Kelly) Smith.
She met and married her loving husband, Paul Diego, and together they made a home in Kittery and raised a family.
She is survived by her children, Maria Volpi of Kittery, Isabel Stevens of Dover, N.H., Lilia Diego of Kittery, Paul and Peggy Diego of Berwick, Doreen and Dennis Kibler of Toledo, Ohio, and Kathy Woodworth of Exeter, N.H., as well as her beloved 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Smith of New Jersey and sister, Ellen Abelende of Maryland.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Sr., in 1992 and her sister, Lillian Nunez.
We remember her as a wonderful mom and grandmother who adored her family. She was an active member of the York Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a communicant of St. Raphael Parish Church. She loved reading and was a loyal Red Sox and Celtics fan.
Friends may visit with Patricia's family on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in her church, St. Raphael Parish Church on Whipple Road in Kittery, with burial to follow in Orchard Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Maine Childrens Medical Cancer Center, 100 Campus Drive, Suite 107, Scarborough, Maine 04074.
