Joe L. Gurley, age 70, went home to the Lord, Monday July 5, 2010, at his home following a one month illness.
Joe was born on July 16, 1939 in Butterfield, Mo., the son of the late Amos and Lucille (Spain) Gurley.
He has been a lifetime area resident.
He married Geraldine "BoBo" Buchanan on August 10, 1958 in Joplin.
He worked for Vicker's, following their closing he worked fifteen years for Childress Royalty, retiring in August of 2009.
He was a member of Peace Tabernacle Church.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years Geraldine "BoBo" Gurley, Joplin; their children, son Donald Gurley, Joplin and daughter, Connie Gurley, Joplin; three sisters, Willie Wiswell and husband Norm, Cerritos, Calif., Mary Mahurin and husband Jim, Bloomington, Ind.,and Edna Winch and husband Bruce, Miami, Okla..
He was preceded in death by a brother, Don Gurley.
Graveside services will 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Frank Buchanan, II and Rev. Rex Robertson will officiate. The pallbearers will be Frank Buchanan, Bill Alford, Jim Mahurin, Bruce Winch, Jack Watts, and Mike Wiggins.
The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to Peace Tabernacle Church or St. John's Hospice in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel.
