Laveda L. Curtis
August 08, 1932 - January 24, 2014

Laveda Curtis, of Harrison, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014. She was 81 years old.

Funeral service will be on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., a visitation will precede the service starting at Noon and ending at service time. Both will be at Holt Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

Laveda Curtis was born and raised in Snowball Arkansas, on August 8, 1932.
Many fond memories were shared with her sisters, and her mom and dad , living on their farm in rural Arkansas.

Very early in Laveda's life, she decided to be the best at whatever life brought to her. In 1951, she graduated at the top of her class as valedictorian.

When she was a senior, she was given a writing assignment as class president, to project where the senior class would be in 25 years. Laveda wrote a "future prediction" letter and projected that she, herself, would be a missionary, and would travel and teach many people about Jesus. This projection for herself came as a result of her being born again during her high school years. She lived this prediction her entire life, and seized any opportunity to tell others about the one she lived for, served and worshiped, JESUS CHRIST.

As a pastors wife for 40 years, she was an accomplished bible scholar and teacher. The lives of many teens in her Sunday School class were forever changed by her example and ministry. Her excellent teaching lives on thru the lives of her students who are active in their own ministries now. Only eternity will reveal the total results of her efforts.

From her perspective, she picked the best man for her choice of a lifelong companion, and on June 23, 1951 she was married to the love of her life, Donald Curtis, who loved her and loyally cared for her, faithfully remaining by her side "till death did them part".

God blessed this family with three daughters, Debbie Kathy, and Lisa. One of Laveda' s greatest accomplishments, from her perspective, was seeing her daughters all married to ministers, and all active in the work of the Lord. To Laveda this defined success.

Something that always brought joy to her heart, and a smile to her face, was when the Lord blessed her with 3 grandsons: LeDon, Andrew, Stephen, (there was never a dull
moment), and 2 granddaughters, Beth and Melodie (finally some life size dolls of her own). And then along came 8 great grandchildren: David, Katelyn, Brayden, Bethany, Kourtney, Mollie, Jackson, Chloe. Laveda's greatest joy was "knowing her children walk in truth".

A dream of her lifetime was fulfilled as she traveled four times to tour the Holy Land, during 1990,-1999, and visited several other countries during those tours.

Throughout her lifetime Laveda had many titles, many hobbies, many accomplishments, the greatest of which would be that she was truly a CHRISTIAN.

Laveda's greatest goal of her lifetime was to live a life worthy of a reward from Jesus Christ. On January 24, 2014 Friday evening, Laveda was promoted to her home in glory
where she lives forever with her baby who welcomed her there. She and Lisa are together
forever in a land of no more pain or sorrow.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Delisa Cox in 2012; a sister, Norma Martin; and her parents James & Rue McElroy.

Survivors, include her husband Donald Curtis, of the home; two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Rev. Roy Barnhill, of Lumberton, NC and Kathy and Rev. David Brown, of Kirksville, MO; son-in-law, Rev. Kevin Cox, of Tioga, LA; two sisters, Nadine McCutcheon, of Harrison and Shirley Phillips and husband, Rev. Hubert Phillips, of Harrison; Brother-in-law, Delmar Martin, of Bellefonte; grandchildren, Rev. LeDon Barnhill, Beth Plate, Melodie Showalter, Rev. Andrew Cox, and Stephen Cox; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends
