SAMUEL J. MARTZ, 74, retired captain of the Memphis Police Department and small business owner for thirty-one years, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 24, 2008. He leaves behind: his wife of forty-one years, Shirley A. Martz, one son, Ronald J. Martz, of Memphis, TN, and four daughters, Marsha Martz Stinson and Dabney Jo Raburn of Memphis, TN, and Connie Gaye Eldridge of Knoxville, TN, and Paige Johnson of Holly Springs, NC. He also leaves nine well-loved grandchildren. He leaves two sisters, Beverly Pitts of Adena, OH, and Patricia Baker of Clarksville, TN; as well as a host of nieces and nephews who loved him. "Papaw's" greatest loves were his family and teaching his grandchildren life's lessons. He was an avid softball pitcher and girls' softball coach for many years. He was a lifelong Memphian and a veteran of the Korean War. His generous and loving spirit will be greatly missed by those who knew him. The family requests any memorials be made to Whitten Memorial Baptist Church. Visitation Sunday, October 26, 3 pm. to 6 pm. at Bartlett Funeral Home and services will be on Monday, October 27, at 10 am. at the funeral home. Bartlett Funeral Home 901-372-5555
