Daniel Rees / Widow: Sarah H. Rees
Comments: S. A. Alexander, Gdn (Susannah, born in 1867)
Sarah's widow claim was filed in 1865 (Application #105252/Certificate #619873)
and she amended for a minor dependent in 1867 (Application #144918/Certificate #115920)

Sometime during 1862, Daniel entered into bigamist marriage with his wife's cousin, Euphemia Pigg. This marriage only lasted about two months before it was apparently discovered and annulled. But during this brief period, he fathered a son with Euphemia (Reuben who was born in January 1863).

Daniel Rees's enlistment in Wisconsin (his older sister, Caroline Howe was in Wisconsin, maybe why he chose to go there)suggests that he fled Iowa due to the scandal of his bigamist marriage to Sarah Webb and Euphemia Pigg (cousins). The "union" of Daniel Reese and the young Euphemia - she would have been about 15 years old (one year younger than her cousin when she married Rees) - would have been viewed as 'scandalous' and downplayed by most families. This event suggests a reason for the 'apparent' rift that developed between the Pigg and Webb families.

Children with Sarah Webb:
Charles J [1857-1949]
George B [1859-1951]
William M [1861-1930]
Emma P [1864-1956]
(m. Charles E Landingham 1883/Died 1897)
(m. Frederick B Seeley 1899/Died 1944)

Child with Euphemia Pigg:
Reuben N Reese 1863-1946
