ASHTABULA — Catherine "Cathy" Elaine (Young) Calaway, age 46, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family, after a short courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 23, 1963, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Denzil and Mabel (Hayes) Young Sr. and had been a lifelong area resident.

After graduation from Edgewood High School in 1982, she then graduated from Cincinnati Business College in 1983. She began her career in the banking industry, starting with Key Bank, then Associates Financial and was the manager for Ashtabula City Employees Federal Credit Union at the time of her death.

She enjoyed creating scrapbooks for her daughter, Phoebe, who was the love of her life. She loved to vacation, with Hawaii being her favorite destination, going to garage sales with her sister, brother and daughter and spending time with her family.

Cathy will be remembered for the caring, compassionate wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend to whomever she met, a selfless person, always thinking and doing for others over herself, with a passionate desire to help those in need.

She is survived by her husband, Russel Calaway, whom she married July 21, 2006; and her miracle daughter, Phoebe Luree, both of Ashtabula; her parents; sister, Jeanette (Daniel) Lister of Geneva; brother, Denzil "Bob" Young Jr. of Ashtabula; step-children, Tracy (Robert) Taylor, Jason (Christie Koski) and Ashley, all of Ashtabula; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Gus and Jessie (Daniels) Hayes; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Phoebe Luree (Harmon) Young; step-daughter, Cynthia (Calaway) Davis; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 19th, at Gateway Church, Austinburg Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Don Hammer, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgeview Cemetery, Austinburg.

Calling Hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 18th, at ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio.

Contributions may be made to the family for her daughter, Phoebe or to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
