Clifton S. Gregg, 74, of Viola, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo, with Rev. John Mattingly officiating. Burial will be in the Viola Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1571 of Aledo. Visitation was held Tuesday at the funeral home, where a memorial was established.

He was born April 25, 1925, in Clinton, Mo., a son of Royal and Ethel Barnard Gregg. He attended school in Missouri. He married Audrey Niemann on Sept. 25, 1943, in Clinton, Mo., and the couple have lived in the Viola area since 1966.

He was a military policeman in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946 stationed in Puerto Rico. He owned and operated Gregg's Grocery Store in Viola for several years. He worked for over 31 years in different capacities at International Harvester, Farmall, until his retirement in 1974.

Survivors include his wife of Viola; daughters and sons-in-law, Amy Jo Pollock, Rock Island, Jackie and Henry Hanson, Viola, and Judy and Gerald Young, Viola; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Robison, Sherrard, Gary and Bobbie Gregg, Viola, and Michael and Monica Gregg, Moline; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Rosson, Coal Valley, Ruby Westmoreland, Butler, Mo., Wilma Fare, Princeton; and brothers, Homer Gregg, Payola, Kan., and Dale Gregg, Harrisonville, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don and Cecil Gregg; a son-in-law, Darrell Pollock; and great-grandson, Dalton Hanson.
